Sinkland Farms, just minutes down the road from The Oaks Victorian Inn, recently opened a micro brewery in their event barn. It’s a great space, perfect for relaxing with friends while sipping a cold one. When we went to check it out, we sat at the long tasting bar where they pull the beers. The stools are tall and I’m short so it took me a moment to get up on one and get comfy. There are 2 big TVs above the bar, perfect for watching Virginia Tech games. There are fire pit tables, a table with a giant checkerboard, couches and chairs, wine barrel tables and if you have a big crowd there plenty of long tables and chairs. There is even an area in the back with giant Legos and toys for the kids. Check put their grand chandelier made from bottles and blue jars, very cool. Strings of light twinkling from the rafter gives the barn a great festive vibe.
They currently offer 10 beers, crafted for them in Charlottesville, made from barley grown on the farm. They are building a brewing house on the property with hopes it will be done by the end of 2018. Spring plans are to have a beer garden. I tried 4 beers our first visit, the Goldsmith Lager (5.3% light crisp and citrusy), Elvis on Velvet (5.5% smooth and light), the Blackburger Hefeweizen (5.1% with hints of banana and cloves) and Yukon Cornelius Stout (7% dark and slightly bitter pairing well with Christmas and misfit toys).
Open Wed – Sun, listen to live music most every night. A big stage at the front of the room features bluegrass, classic rock and more. Every Wednesday is Bluegrass Open Jam and there’s Bingo the first Thursday of the month. Currently Buffalo and More provides dinner offerings or you can order from local restaurants or bring your own picnic. There are also lots of nibblies available like Route 11 chips, peanut brittle and Virginia peanuts. Occasionally they are closed for a private event (we’ve hosted guests going to weddings there) so check their web site.
