Our past guests may remember visiting a lovely winery just down the road from The Oaks Victorian Inn called Attimo. Well Attimo is no more. It has been remodeled, rebranded and reborn as Whitebarrel Winery. We attended their Grand Re-Opening and love, love, love what Rick and Tess have done to the tasting room. It has a clean classic look but remains warm and inviting. All their delicious wines have been renamed and relabeled but if you had a favorite Attimo wine, there is a cheat sheet matching the new to old. As they say, a rose by any other name.
Tall stools line the tasting bar where you can sample and choose a wine to enjoy while sitting in front of their big stone fireplace. There are comfy leather chairs arranged around coffee tables creating cozy niches for lively conversation with friends or quiet relaxation with a good book. There are also tables and chairs for dining. A seasonal menu is designed to complement the range of unique wines with local Virginia foods and cheeses. It’s not unusual to see card games being played with a glass of wine and a plate of nibbles.
The walls are decorated with wooden palettes and barrel ribs that have been turned into shelves and wall pockets adorned with wine bottles. You’ll find barrels full of goodies for purchase including one that contains extra corks for creating trivets, cork wreathes or any other work of art inspired by their wonderful wines. Large windows overlook over 11,000 grape vines and many raspberry and blackberry plants growing along the rolling hills of the vineyard.
As they say on their website “Whether you want to swing by and browse in our local shop, grab a bite to eat, take a tour of the winery or relax in our gardens with a glass of wine. We’ll always give you a warm Virginia welcome.”
