Local Microbreweries Craft Great Beers

Saturday night Bernie and I were in the mood for good beer and a steak so we headed out to The River Company Restaurant and Brewery. It’s only 18 minutes from The Oaks Victorian Inn, which isn’t a very long ride unless you really have a craving for their Dumpster Dog Porter like I did.

The River Company is in a great space with a cathedral ceiling, huge stone fireplace and a patio overlooking the New River and the town of Radford. It was really busy but they found us a table in about 2 minutes. Our server came right over with menus and a basket of their house rolls and herb butter. I love the Dumpster Dog Porter but I also really love their River Red Ale. It took me a minute to realize there was no need to choose. We ordered a flight! They brew 7 beers year round and a seasonal and you can choose any combination for a flight. Bernie ordered a steak and I was all set to order a burger until I heard the catch of the day was red snapper with asparagus risotto. Both of our meals were delicious and so were the beers.

When we are in the mood for ribs and soft pretzel sticks we head over to Bull and Bones, another microbrewery close to home. At Bull and Bones you can drink and dine in the restaurant, the bar, or outside on warm nights. They brew 6 beers year round, a seasonal and an old fashioned creamy root beer. Bernie LOVES the root beer and you can order flights here too. The bar has plenty of TVs tuned into sporting events and 7 world class billiard tables. Six are 7′ Diamond Smart Tables and there is one 9′ Diamond Smart Table. My son Seth loves to play pool so when he comes for a visit he heads over to Bull and Bones.

Enjoy some of our local brews then head back to The Oaks for a wonderful night’s rest followed by a 3 course breakfast by candlelight. Book now and

…Bottoms up and don’t forget to come for Brew Do in October
